LS Fest Event staff are pleased to announce the return of the Lucas Oil West Drift Challenge for LS Fest West 2018. Taking place at Las Vegas Motor Speedway in Las Vegas, Nevada, the event will pit several pro level and amateur drivers against one another in an exhibition drift challenge.
Last year 16 drivers competed in the challenge with their LS-powered drift cars for the top position. After the tire smoke and flying rubber dissipated, Rialto, California’s Rome Charpentier earned the top podium spot in his green Federal Tire/Feal Suspension sponsored BMW E36. Right behind him in second place was Gilbert, Arizona based Nick Gross in his teal Maxxis Tire, Elite Auto Finishes Nissan S14, followed by Andrew Schulte and his 2F Performance, Go Fast AZ, Fortune Auto sponsored Nissan S13 in third. Event staff looks forward to seeing these drivers and more return to LVMS for 2018 to battle it out again on a newly developed course.
What’s up for grabs for LSFW Drift Challenge competitors this year? In addition to the $1,500 cash payout for the top podium spot, the winner will also be taking home a set of Fortune Auto coilovers. Customized steering wheel trophies from Grip Royal will be presented to each of the drift challenge winners. Second and third place will also be taking home $750 and $375 Holley/MSD product certificates.
“The drift challenge segment of LS Fest West wouldn’t be possible without the great group of enthusiasts that come together to work with us on this particular aspect of LS Fest,” comments Holley’s Blane Burnett. “For 2018, Formula Drift announcer and automotive personality Jarod Deanda will once again be handling the mic. Nick Swann and his staff will be responsible for on track operations. “Nick has helped polish off our drift challenges since they came on board with us in 2012,” comments Burnett. “Together, Deanda and Swann have both played an integral role in the success of LS Fest drift challenges over the years.”
Formula Drift Pro Drivers Pat Goodin, Matt Field, and Dirk Stratton will be attending LS Fest West and serving as the panel of Drift Challenge judges. Speaking of judging, if you think you have what it takes to impress in this year’s exhibition challenge, makes sure you head to the event website and follow the instructions on how to submit your entry for consideration.
